Week 5 and Work in Progress

Having finished the Granny squares for my scarf I have made a start on a new colour scheme.  What this will be I do not know yet.  Quite possibly a cushion, but we will see.

The Granny Square scarf is finished, apart from finishing off the sewing up.  I might decide that I want to add more squares, and will make the decision when it is sewn together.

I decided to undo the scarf I was making B.  It was in DK but was, to my mind, a bit thin and like a dishcloth.  I bought some chunky yarn on Saturday and have made a start on the scarf.  I seems a lot more 'scarf-like' to me now and being in chunky yarn is making up quite quickly.  I am working it in treble but into the back of each stitch which gives a nice ridged effect.

We have been to a family party today to celebrate a cousin's 40th birthday.  The food was Indian and as I said I would make a dessert I made this Carrot Halva to keep to the Indian theme.  I have never made it before.  It was delicious and everyone seemed to like it.  However, I doubt I will make it again - I spent two hours yesterday afternoon watching and stirring over the stove.  If anyone has a quicker method of making this delicious dessert, please let me know!

GAD week four

This last week was quite busy so not much crochet done, but I did finish the multi coloured scarf - I won't put another picture up as it more or less looks the same as last weeks picture.   I have also finished off one half of the G.A.D. scarf.  There are still a few more squares to do, but here is the half that I have crocheted together with slip stitch.   I think it looks great and I am longing to wear it.

I did wear the multi coloured scarf on Saturday and it was very warm - too warm and I had to take it off! 

Another exciting happening last week is that the U3A photography group I belong to has chosen my photograph of the multi coloured scarf to be displayed, with others, on the photography group board at the AGM.

Now I have to find a new crochet project.  My husband wants me to make him a scarf in Air Force Blue.  I have some yarn in this colour over from the multi coloured scarf, but I will need to get more.   Small problem here as I can't remember where I got it from!  I think this means a trip to all the wool shops that I visit often!  I might leave my purse and credit cards at home!

However, Air Force blue is rather boring, so I will be looking for something more colourful to do as well.

Granny Square a Day week 3 - a decision made and WIP

Here is my progress so far - 20 squares.  I am really enjoying doing this project each day - even when I have had to 'catch up' and make more than one square.  

So, what decision have I come to?  I have decided that these Granny Squares will be a scarf.   How long it will be I do not know, but I will make a start on sewing them together and see how it goes.  At the moment I am thinking I will edge the scarf with the pink, the sage green, and the brown.    Part of the reason - well probably the main reason! - is that I am getting a little bored of using the same colours and also I can see there are loads more different patterns to use for Granny Squares.   So I will have a go at making different squares and see how I go with joining them as I go.

Here is the multi-coloured scarf I have been working on.  At the moment all ends have been darned in and I will make a start on edging it.   I love the colours, but I am not totally happy with it - but for a first attempt it is OK.  I have to admit that the first chain is rather tight, so one end is very slightly thinner than the other!  Probably only I will know this, but it is a fault I will have to make sure I do not repeat.

Granny Square a Day - week 2

Week 2 - I have complete one square each day, but not yesterday as I was out all day.  I have 12 squares completed and tonight I will have to 'catch-up' and make two. 

My Sage Green yarn arrived on Tuesday, (all 500 grams of it) but I am still undecided as to whether to use it or not.   I want to continue using the beige colour as the edging.    I think it might be an idea to make up a couple of squares with the green colour and see how it looks. 

I mentioned last week that I searched in all my local shops that sell wool for this particular Sage Green colour.  I could only find it on eBay in 500 gram balls.   We went to another shopping area on Friday, one we don't visit often. You guessed - I found a shop selling just that colour of yarn.  Oh well, at least I have plenty for other projects.

I am still working on the multi coloured scarf.   I now realise that I have made it too wide, and I will have to fold it in half lenghtwise when wearing it.  Otherwise, I think it looks great, and it will definitely be very warm to wear.  I hope to complete it this week and will post a picture when done.
